The comments on the Beyonce post don't work, so I'll use this one to point out that the Medici's also had 'mad beef' (with the Pazzis among others), which makes them further akin to our hip-hop chums.
I would also say that their love of the bling (Just LOOK at Kanye's piece. How cool is that?) is a common factor.
Yeah, you're quite right. The point I didn't quite manage to make was that they've gone from just straight forward ostentation, to using sophisticated art and tastefulness as the ultimate form of ostentation.
