Monday Morning Memento Mori

Some people don't feel like they're having a successful career unless they're forever flying around the world to shoot with Chris, Harmony or Helmut. Comfort yourself with the fact that there were 147 aeroplane accidents last year, resulting in 876 deaths. If you ask me you're better off never leaving the kitchen.

You're quite right, and by some way. Considering the most likely cause of death in a kitchen (fire) you'll be comforted to know that a mere 299 people in total died in accidental dwelling fires last year, and some of those are bound to have been in bed at the time. Even if you include those killed by arsonists it's still only up to 370. Phew.

Thanks for going to all that trouble to prove yourself wrong.

You discount the risk of my setting myself on fire, in an act of self-immolation, in protest against the horrible Vodafone poster campaign, now appearing on every bus-stop site everywhere.

If you set yourself on fire voluntarily as a protest against Vodafone, is that a risk any more?

The way you treat your commenters I'd not be surprised if the risk of arson on your house was not considerably higher than average! ;)

You don't need to thank me, I just had the stats to hand. Yes, directly to hand. As in on my desk. What's more, I'd been rather delighted at the coincidence, you big meanie.

1.16am - Are you threatening to set fire to my house? I find that fairly unnerving, coming from a late night poster such as yourself, emoticon not-withstanding.

11.14am - And are you considering setting up some kind of me-too ritualised Monday morning death mnemonic? Because I should advise you, that you're entering a potentially crowded market.

Don't worry, I'm not entering the death-stats-arena in any meaningful way. For some of us this is just a diversion.

So you're thinking of producing a COI campaign, costing thousands of pounds, about the dangers of house fires, to run outdoor, on TV and potentially online as a diversion?I suppose if you were a millionaire arsonist that would be a perfect diversion actually.

No, no, it's not the looking at the stats that's the diversion, it's the telling you about them. I don't know what COI is. I'm not in advertising. I know, I shouldn't really be here at all.

I think I should probably go now.

As you may have gathered, I'm not really in advertising either.

COI stands for Central Office of Information - so what I'd assumed was that you were a creative working on a brief that meant you'd be publicising those stats, hence their presence on your desk.

So either you work in insurance, or you're some kind of solicitor.
